Grants Writer

The Tubman Museum is looking for an experienced grants writer (Contract Position) to research, write and submit grants on behalf of the museum and to compose and submit required interim and final reports for grants awarded. Other responsibilities of this position include tracking grant proposals, making copies of submitted grants and accompanying materials, updating and maintaining grant files, and responding to inquiries and requests from funders.

The ideal candidate will have 1 or more years of experience in grants writing and proven success in securing grants. They should have excellent writing and communication skills, experience preparing documents in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel formats, an organized approach to compiling and tracking information, an ability to meet grant deadlines and guidelines, and the capability to work well with others in gathering needed information and materials.

This position is a contract position and payment for services includes an agreed-upon and established fee for each grant that is researched, written, approved (by the Museum’s Executive Director) and submitted and received by the funding organization’s published deadline. Payment for other services, including writing and submitting interim and final grant reports, will be based on an agreed-upon hourly fee and submission of a corresponding timesheet and invoice for each project.

While much of the grants writer’s work can be performed off-site, away from the Museum, they will also be afforded access to on-site Museum donor records and files as needed and will be provided a Museum work space with access to a computer and printer, and a museum email address and phone number so they can send, receive, and retrieve grants-related communications and messages.

The grants writer position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Museum.

If interested in applying for this position, please email a cover letter and resume outlining your grants writing experience, successful grants awarded, references and contact information to Adra Dudley adudley[at]
