Children in the Arts

The Tubman Children in the Arts (TCIA) program was created to help celebrate, educate and motivate kids through a variety of programs, such as year-round classes and workshops in:

The TCIA program is designed to incorporate the arts into the everyday lives of children and provide a setting where they can grow, create and learn.

Modern & African Dance Class

These classes teach the fundamentals of ballet, jazz and African dance.  Classes are taught in two age groups: Ages 6-9 and Ages 10 and above.  The students participate in annual events such as Kwanzaa, Pan African Festival and culminate with an extravagant theatrical production along with the mime students based on folklore. This theatrical recital is complete with lavish and unique costumes.

Pantomime Class

This class is an introduction to pantomime.  Students between the ages of 7-18 will learn the art of Mime.  The mime students will participate in annual events such as Kwanzaa, Pan African Festival and culminate with an extravagant theatrical production along with the dance students based on folklore.

About Our Mime Teacher:

Kenneth Rozier: In response to his passion for the art of miming, Ken is the founder of a program called Mimers Entertainment. He has been miming for over seven years.  Ken uses pantomimic movements with dance called Phantomime.  He has been associated with events across the United States that include the National Baptist Convention, MidSummer Macon and Cherry Blossom Festival to name a few.

 

African American Heritage Camp

The African American Heritage Camp is a one-week camp open to children ages 7-12. There will be two camp sessions featuring arts and crafts activities, creative writing, character portrayals and African American Heritage tours of Macon and Atlanta. The first session of camp will be held June 15-19, 2009; the second session will be held June 22-26, 2009. In an effort to ensure that as many children as possible are exposed to this cultural opportunity, this camp is open to children who have not participated in the past.

The camp is offered free of charge.
