TUBMANTeens
Students ages 14 to 19 may participate in the Tubman
volunteer program as docents, office assistants or camp
assistants. Interested persons should have an interest
in African American art, history and culture. The program
is designed to enhance the cultural exposure and educational
enrichment of participant. Applications are available
al year-long. All participants must attend assigned
workshops and classes scheduled throughout the year.
For more information or to register for an interview
call the Tubman Museum at (478) 743 - 8544.
DOCENTS
The Tubman volunteers who present our Museum to the
public are called Tour Guides or Docents. These volunteer
staff positions facilitate week-end or evening tours
at the Museum. Docents must attend (3) workshops a year.
These workshops are designed to keep staff, volunteers
and the public aware and informed of the changing exhibitions
and permanent collection of the Museum.
STAFF
VOLUNTEERS
The Tubman could not function if it were not for the
assistance of our volunteers. Phone banks, mailings
and many of our staffing needs could not be met without
the aid of these persons. These persons may come and
assist the Tubman on a weekly or monthly basis.
PAN
AFRICAN FESTIVAL OF GEORGIA
The Tubman relied upon people in our community to assist
with our Educational Outreach Programs such as the Pan
African Festival of Georgia to meet both the educational
and cultural needs of the Middle Georgia community.
The Festival Committee meets monthly with sub-committee
meetings and persons detailing work for the Festival.
The committee is composed of volunteers and staff. The
committee has a volunteer chairperson and a Museum staff
member is the designated program facilitator.
OTHER
COMMITTEES
Volunteer committees enable the Tubman to plan the Pan
African Festival of Georgia and All That Jazz. The Teacher
Liaisons, Education and Resource Center Committees function
in an advisory capacity. Each group assists the Office
of Education in planning and implementing of critical
programming in collaboration with other resources in
the education community.
Persons
interested in volunteering at the Tubman Museum should
contact the Tubman at 743-8544.
